Marcos and his SUGG
When you were a kid, what was it like to ride a bike without help for the first time?
I remember the very first time I was finally getting off training wheels. I was with my parents and grandparents at a big playground with lots of open space. At the start, I was struggling to find my balance, especially when trying to take turns. In the first few tries, my dad would stay next to me and catch me if I was looking a bit wobbly.
As I built confidence, I remember finally speeding up and riding away from my dad all by myself, screaming with joy and hearing my family cheering in the back, too. Then I did a lap of the playground to show off and got lots of high-fives and taps on the back from the family. It was a really satisfying feeling to finally find my centre of balance and be able to propel myself smoothly.
Learning to ride a bike was one of those "once you get it, you never forget" moments. Ever since, it has felt very natural.
What's your best cycling memory?
Back in Australia, we do a 'Tour de Fridge' party. With a group of friends, we travel a planned route on bikes and skateboards and stop by each other's houses for beers, music and games. To add to the excitement, we pick a theme and everybody gets dressed up in crazy costumes.
Those rides with friends between our houses all in fancy dress, having fun, are some of my best cycling memories. If that counts as cycling, that is!
What do you do at the organisation you work for?
Brussels Beer Project is a craft brewery in Brussels. We make great beers ranging from good-old classics to experimental recipes. I am currently working between the packaging/logistics team and the operations team, linking our hands-on packaging and our operations activities.
What's it like to ride your SUGG mini e-bike?
It goes up the hill at over 20km/h. What a ride! And it was really funny to see my friend struggling on his fixie as I cruised up the hill!
